The Yale Law School Law and Globalization Breakfast Series held a breakfast and panel discussion on April 16 at the Century Assn. in NYC. The panel was entitled "How to close Guantanamo?" When President Obama issued an Executive Order that directed the closing of Guantanamo within one year, it raised questions: how should this be accomplished?, what are the practical and legal difficulties in doing so?, etc. Distinguished panelists Sarah H. Cleveland ‘92, Louis Henkin Prof. of Human and Constitutional Rights, Columbia Law School; Ramzi Kassem, Clin. Lecturer in Law and Robert M. Cover Clin. Teaching Fellow, YLS; Matthew Waxman ’99, Assoc. Prof. of Law, Columbia Law School; and Richard B. Zabel, Partner, Akin Gump shared their views before responding to a series of pointed questions about the ramifications of closing Guantanamo. Acting YLS Dean Kate Stith was the moderator.
