The Yale Law School Assn. of Illinois held a dinner and discussion on federal sentencing titled "Will Judicial Discretion Triumph? Reflections on the Supreme Court's Ongoing Federal Sentencing Revolution" on April 21, in Chicago. USDC judges Lynn Adelman (EDWS) and Raymond Jackson (EDVA), together with Alison Siegler '98, Asst. Clin. Prof. of Law and Dir., Federal Criminal Justice Project, Univ. of Chicago Law School, and Asst. U.S. Attorney Manish Shah served as panelists. Candace Jackson '05, Assoc., Skadden Arps, served as moderator. The discussion was wide-ranging and included the history of the guidelines, a critique, and a defense of the guidelines, the experience of the judging in post-Booker cases and the responses of the courts of appeals to the advisory guidelines. Generously, Skadden was host and invited attendees as their guests for dinner.
